Common cold, influenza, and pneumonia are common respiratory infectious diseases, which are linked with each other in terms of the pathogenesis and treatment. Overuse of antibiotics in patients with mild disease may lead to bacterial resistance, while under use of antibiotics based on antimicrobial stewardship in patients with severe disease may lead to treatment failure. Therefore, appropriate consideration of both the condition of the patients, such as the disease severity, and the philosophy of antimicrobial stewardship is of importance.
