| 概要 | AIM: This biennial survey assessed the current status, fields of activity, and professional roles of Certified Genetic Counselors (CGCs) in Japan for future career advancement.
METHODS: The FY2022 survey was conducted by the Japan Association of Certified Genetic Counselors (JACGC) among its 388 members, focusing on workforce issues, work-life balance, and career planning. RESULTS: Most CGCs were employed in clinical settings (78.7%), followed by education (14.2%) and industry (7.1%), spanning 34 of 47 prefectures (72.3%). Primary specialties included cancer (77.3%) and prenatal (66.0%) fields, with growing contributions in pediatric (55.3%) and neuromuscular (46.1%) fields. Responsibilities ranged from administrative tasks to specialized roles in research and education. CONCLUSION: CGCs consistently demonstrate their professional value across diverse fields. As genetic medicine expands, they are expected to broaden their scope and drive professional advancement in Japan. |
