概要 BACKGROUND: Women receiving negative NIPT results may later experience ambivalent feelings, such as accepting the test while regretting it. This study investigated factors generating ambivalence among women who gave birth after negative NIPT results.

METHODS: A questionnaire was administered to women with negative NIPT results. Content analysis using N-Vivo was conducted on ambivalent expressions from 1,562 respondents.

RESULTS: Environmental factors, genetic counseling-related factors, and increased anticipatory anxiety affected ambivalence. Pregnant women desired more information regarding the detailed prognosis and daily life of individuals with Down syndrome, and termination of pregnancy, assuming a potential positive result.

CONCLUSIONS: Addressing these three interrelated factors during genetic counseling may resolve ambivalence, enhancing the quality of decisions made by pregnant women.
