| 概要 | OBJECTIVE: This study investigated the impact of maternal smoking on early placental expression of angiogenesis and oxidative stress genes, which may relate to the reduced preeclampsia risk in smokers.
METHODS: Villous tissue samples were collected at 6–7 and 10–11 weeks of gestation from 31 women undergoing surgical termination. Maternal smoking status was verified by serum cotinine. Placental expression of VEGFA, Flt-1, sEng, PlGF, HMOX-1, and SOD was measured using real-time PCR. RESULTS: VEGFA expression was significantly higher in smoking women than in nonsmoking women at 10–11 weeks of gestation. No significant difference was observed at 6–7 weeks, and expression of the other genes did not vary by smoking status. CONCLUSION: Elevated placental VEGFA expression at 10–11 weeks in smoking women may contribute to their decreased risk of developing preeclampsia. |
